How do I care for my Foxwood Co. wood vessel?
Our vessels are sealed with several coats of finish for durability. However, please take note of the following care instructions.
If you use your vessel as a planter with soil, we highly recommend using a plastic pot or similar durable liner inside the wood vessel. Many nurseries and garden centers carry plastic pots and liners that fit our vessels - we encourage you to take the vessel with you when finding the right size! If a plastic pot or liner is not used, there is the potential for your wood vessel to crack with the pressure of water and wet soil against it.
When watering, always remove the plant and pot from the vessel first. Allow the water to drain completely before putting it back into the vessel. Do not water the plant while it's in the vessel, as most plants need proper drainage to avoid root rot, and again - water can crack the wood.
Air plants, which come with some purchases where noted, fit nicely within our vessels and do not require soil or a liner. Please see the section, "How do I care for my air plant?" below on air plant care for more information.
Avoid placing your wood vessel near an intense heat source (for example, directly on a hot radiator or in front of a heater). Drastic temperature changes can cause the wood to rapidly dry out and crack.
Wipe clean with a dry, non-abrasive cloth.
How do I care for my air plant?
Air plants do not need soil, but they do need water! For optimal care, soak them in filtered room temperature water for 20-30 minutes 2-3 times a month, or mist 2-3 times a week. After soaking or misting, gently shake off excess water.
Place them in bright, indirect sunlight.
Air plant care can vary depending on location, climate, and light source. There are plentiful resources online about different ways of caring for your air plant - this is just what has worked for us here at home in Maryland!
How do I care for my Foxwood Co. board?
Our boards are food-safe, and sealed with a combination of mineral oil and beeswax. To clean your board, use warm soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth. Vinegar may also be used to disinfect your board.
Always wipe dry after cleaning; standing water on the surface can lead to cracks and warping.
Never attempt to wash your board in the dishwasher.
Condition your board with fresh coats of food-safe oil as often as you'd like. Food-safe oils and conditioners can be found in many hardware supply stores and online - just read labels carefully to make sure they are safe to come in contact with food!
If your board becomes rough, you can use a light grit sandpaper or steel wool to gently sand the surface, then follow up with oil or conditioner.
